Like in the other magnificent Italian cities,
you will notice that Milan is a spectacular city full of monuments and art.
There are many tourists from all over the world coming to Milan and its
exhibition. The following are some of Milan’s most famous and most
spectacular attractions: |

THE DOME:
it’s the symbol of Milan, work started in the year 1386 and the dome was
only finished during the 19h century thanks to Napoleon who made himself
king of Italy; |

GALLERIA VITTORIO EMANUELE II:
is a beautiful mall consisting of a street with a ceiling and it offers
a wide diversity of shops, libraries and cafés. You can also find the famous
restaurant “Savini” here, designed by the architect Mengoni during the year
1865 and the opening was held by Vittorio Emanuele II two years later; |

THEATER "LA SCALA":
was constructed by Giuseppe Piermarini between the years 1776 and 1778.
It was destroyed during the Second World War but was rebuilt shortly
afterwards. The event “Stagione Scaligera” starts on the 7th December every
year; |

ROYAL CASTLE:
a palace from 1330 – 1336. The stile, the neoclassic one, that one can
admire today descends back to the year 1778 when Giuseppe Piermarini
transformed it into a residence for the archduke Ferdinando from Austria; |

AMBROSIANA GALLERY:
was constructed with the aim to supply painters from the Academy with
illustrated models. Initially the gallery had in its possession 172
paintings that were spoken of highly. Today the collection is enlarged due
to numerous donations made by private persons; |

SFORZESCO CASTLE:
is another of Milan’s symbols. It was built in 1368, by the Viscontis who
used the castle as their residence and turned it into an extraordinary
renaissance castle; |

THE CURCH OF SANT’AMBROGIO:
is the church that holds the name of the saint of Milan.
It was constructed during the IV century by the bishop Ambrogio and inside
the church one can admire master pieces like the San Vittore mosaics and the
gold altar; |

THE ARC OF PEACE:
the arch is centred in the piazza Sempione and the building of it was
started in 1807 by Luigi Cagnola who had a vision of a Napoleonic arch.
The architect had completed two thirds when work was delayed due to the
defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. During 1862 Franz I of Austria ordered that
the arch should be completed and made into a peace monument in remembrance
of the European peace in 1815. |
